Most full bathroom remodels here run three to six weeks on site. Here is where that time goes, what happens before the crew arrives and what stretches a schedule.

Quick answer

A full bathroom remodel in Dallas usually takes three to six weeks on site, after one to three weeks of selections and permits. Demo, rough-in and inspection take the first week, waterproofing and tile the next two, and glass arrives a week or two after tile. Layout changes on a slab add time.

Before the crew arrives

Two things happen before demolition: selections and permits. Tile, the vanity, fixtures and glass style are chosen and ordered so nothing on site waits on a delivery.

Permits depend on scope. In Dallas, a cosmetic job with no plumbing or electrical changes needs none. Electrical changes need an electrical permit, typically approved in a few business days. Moving or adding fixtures needs plumbing and building permits, often about two weeks, and adding a bathroom can take around three weeks with a layout plan.

Week by week on site

This is a typical full remodel on the existing layout. A layout change adds slab work at the start.

What stretches a schedule

Moving plumbing on a slab is the biggest one: trenching or tunneling and the inspection before the concrete is patched add days at the start. Damage found behind the walls, such as rotted subfloor or a failed pan, adds repair and drying time before new work goes on.

Special-order tile, custom vanities and frameless glass are the other common delays. Glass in particular cannot be ordered until tile is finished, because it is cut to the real opening.

What happens at the inspections

When a Dallas bathroom job needs permits, it also needs inspections, and they sit at fixed points in the schedule. The rough-in inspection comes after new drains, supplies and wiring are in and before any wall or floor is closed; nothing can be tiled over until it passes.

A final inspection follows once fixtures are set and circuits are live. We book inspections as soon as the work is ready for them, and we plan the tile crew around the rough-in date so no one is waiting on site. Cosmetic jobs with no plumbing or electrical changes skip this step entirely, which is part of why they are faster.

Living with a remodel in progress

Most people stay in the house. The room is sealed off, dust is controlled, and if there is a second bathroom it stays working throughout. Water is shut off only for short periods during plumbing work, and we tell you when in advance.

The noisiest days are demolition and any slab cutting. After that, tile setting and finish work are quiet. If the bathroom is the only one, tell us on the first call so we can plan the order around keeping a toilet usable.

How to keep your remodel on schedule

Make selections before demolition, and avoid changes once tile is ordered. Ask your contractor to open the wet areas early so hidden repairs are found in the first days rather than the third week. And for a layout change, file permits before anything else is scheduled.
