Shower door installation in Dallas: frameless, sliding and fixed glass
Glass is the last thing into a shower and the first thing people notice. We measure it off the finished tile, set it plumb and seal it so it stays that way.

Shower door installation in Dallas means measuring the finished opening, choosing frameless, semi-frameless or sliding glass, and setting hinges or tracks into solid backing. Market data puts a shower door at roughly 600 to 1,350 dollars depending on framing. Frameless glass is usually a separate order measured after tile, which adds a week or two.
Why a shower door is measured last
Tile walls are never perfectly plumb, and a frameless panel has almost no tolerance to hide that. So the glass is measured after the tile is grouted, to the sixteenth, and cut to the opening that actually exists.
The fixing matters as much as the glass. Hinges on a frameless door carry the weight of 3/8-inch tempered glass, so they are anchored into studs or blocking behind the tile, not into board alone. Sliding doors ride a track that has to be level across the curb.
We install DreamLine and Basco styles alongside Kohler, and fit the door to the clearance in front of it so it swings past the vanity and toilet.

The three shower glass setups we install
Frameless Hinged Door
A frameless door is heavy tempered glass held only by hinges and clips, with no metal frame to collect soap and water. It looks the cleanest and is the easiest to keep clean, and it is the least forgiving to install. Walls must be close to plumb, the hinge side needs solid backing, and the door needs clear swing space outside the shower. We measure after tile is grouted, order the panels cut to size, and install them with a sweep and seal at the bottom.
Planning range, shower door: $600 to $1,350 depending on framing.

Semi-Frameless Sliding Door
A sliding door runs on a top track or header, which suits tub-shower combinations and tight bathrooms where a hinged door has no room to swing. Semi-frameless versions show less metal than older framed doors and are lighter than full frameless glass. The bottom guide and track have to be set level across the tub or curb, and every fastening through tile is sealed so water cannot follow the screw into the wall. Rollers and guides are adjustable if the house moves.

Fixed Panel and Splash Screen
A fixed panel has no door at all: one sheet of glass that keeps spray inside a walk-in shower, leaving an open entry. It works best in showers at least 60 inches long, with the shower head aimed away from the opening. A splash screen is the shorter version over a tub. Both are held with clamps or a U-channel and sometimes a support bar to the ceiling or wall, and both are the simplest glass to clean and maintain.
What decides the price of shower glass
Glass is priced by style, size and what it has to attach to.
Planning range, shower door: $600 to $1,350 depending on framing. Market data, not a quote.
Frameless or framed
Frameless glass is thicker and costs more than semi-frameless.
Size and panels
A door plus a return panel costs more than a single door.
Glass options
Low-iron clear or a protective coating adds to the order.
Hardware finish
Matte black and brushed brass cost more than chrome.
Backing
Hinges need solid blocking; missing blocking adds work.
Out-of-plumb walls
Very uneven tile may need a framed or sliding option.
Why shower glass needs a solid mount in Dallas
Dallas clay dries and shrinks through the summer and swells again after heavy rain, and a slab that moves slightly with it can show up in a shower as a door that starts to rub or a gap that opens at the strike side. A frameless door has no frame to absorb that, so we anchor hinges into solid backing, leave the adjustment the hardware allows, and seal the bottom so small shifts do not turn into leaks.

Hanging glass yourself versus having us do it
| Task | Doing it yourself | Having us do it |
|---|---|---|
| Measuring | Easy to miss an out-of-plumb wall | Measured at three heights on finished tile |
| Drilling tile | Cracked tile is easy with the wrong bit | Diamond bits and a sealed fixing |
| Lifting the panel | Frameless glass is heavy and shatters if edge-struck | Two installers and glass lifters |
| Finding backing | Hinges in board alone pull loose | Anchored into studs or blocking |
| Sealing | Wrong silicone or no cure time leaks | Cured before the first shower |
